Every year 12,000 women are faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer, of which more than 3000 women are aged younger than 50 years. Their lives are turned upside down, and nothing seems to what it was before. Old emotions can come back, fears are right in their face. Women with breast cancer go into an intensive medical circuit that takes about a year. Their recovery period takes another year, which for a lot of women is the period that they have to deal with a lot of emotions and grief.
Breast Cancer Foundation (Borstkanjer in Dutch)
Ingeborg Biemans, Founder of the Borstkanjer Foundation shares how she started in 2010: "I had several girlfriends diagnosed with breast cancer. I saw their struggle, concerns but also their strong commitment to survive. And when they survived, they were dealing with lots of issues too. Finding a balance again between 'before' and 'after' the cancer. I started to organise the Breast Cancer Weekend retreats together with life coach Nannet and Marleen, founder of Puurenkuur. This retreats are specifically designed for those women to meet other women in the same situation, to share experiences and to give your body and mind an energy boast. It has been a huge success from the start: the women recognize each others stories and enjoy being able to laugh and relax again. A retreat full of healthy food, fitwalks, Body & Mind exercises like Tai Chi, Pilates, Sun Salutations and stretching, and also a touch of meditation, Buddhism and spirituality.
The retreat is coached by Nannet, our bilingual English Dutch Pilates instructor, Life Coach and Reiki Master.
