Most are situated along Sri Lanka’s stunning coastline. The climate, gorgeous surroundings and cool monsoon season (June-October) are ideal ingredients for an Ayurveda cure. Relaxing yoga and meditation classes form part of a cure. Following an intake consultation with an Ayurveda practitioner, you will be given a customised programme consisting of daily Ayurveda treatments, massages and therapies.

What does Sri Lanka have to offer? Here are some examples:

Wellness and Ayurveda holidays in Sri Lanka

Ayurveda stands for ‘science of life’. Ayurveda is thousands of years old and is a holistic health philosophy. This mother of all therapies is all about balancing mind, body and soul by seeking out the core of a health issue rather than simply treating the symptoms. Puurenkuur is the leading provider of Ayurveda holidays to Sri Lanka.

An Ayurveda cure is suitable for anyone – whatever their goal. Relax with yoga and meditation classes that form part of the programme, alongside an individualised cure programme devised following a check-up with your Ayurveda practitioner. Each day, you will experience different Ayurveda treatments, massages and therapies.

An Ayurveda practitioner will tailor the programme entirely to your needs based on your dosha type, devising an individualised plan for re-establishing equilibrium. A traditional cure consists of an Ayurvedic diet including plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, occasionally chicken or fish, morning yoga and evening meditation, massages and herbal and steam baths.

Want advice on booking an Ayurveda holiday? Would you rather go direct to the source of Ayurveda? Or prefer the option of booking an Ayurveda holiday closer to home? There are many resorts within Europe that offer similar programmes. Get in touch with one of our Ayurveda specialists for tailored advice, without obligation.

How an Ayurveda cure benefits you?

An Ayurveda holiday is by no means restrictive! It can be a wonderful opportunity to combine luxury and health. You can enjoy delicious food throughout your trip and still lose weight. Some other welcome side effects include a clear mind, complete relaxation and more energy. The ayurvedic lifestyle also gives us greater insight into ourselves and the world around us.

Ayurveda is primarily a preventative treatment. An Ayurveda cure can rejuvenate your body and mind and have a life-prolonging effect. But Ayurveda also achieves great results for rheumatism, sleep issues, chronic fatigue, stress, high blood pressure, migraine, psoriasis or depression.

What are the types of Ayurveda cure?

You can follow a rasayana cure (wellness Ayurveda: purely for relaxation), an intensive panchakarma cure (cleansing body and mind) or a medical Ayurveda cure (for the treatment of specific complaints or illnesses). Medical Ayurveda cures require a longer stay. We also recommend repeating the treatments and therapies.

Other benefits of an Ayurveda holiday

During a cure in Sri Lanka you will receive between two and four treatments per day, such as head, body and synchronised massages and herbal and steam baths. The Ayurvedic method is gentle and based on natural treatments. This means that you will not experience any unwanted side effects. For more information on Ayurveda, click here.

Yoga retreats in Sri Lanka

Yoga retreats are suitable for everyone! You don’t need experience. Nor do you need to be flexible. Flexibility is not the ultimate end in yoga, rather a welcome consequence. Sri Lanka is a popular destination for yoga retreats. In Sri Lanka you’ll find different types of accommodation where yoga, meditation and other spiritual activities can be practised – from the basic to the luxurious. The accommodation will often encompass a dedicated yoga space and offer a peaceful oasis where you can fully relax and unwind.

Ayurveda in Koggala

Koggala is in southern Sri Lanka, some 130km from Colombo. The region is known thanks to its capital, Galle: a lively city that attracts many tourists each year. An area of the city is in the jungle. You can take fantastic boat trips on the Koggala lake. Fishing families live along the banks of this lake. On an island in the lake is a Buddhist monastery. The Koggala region is also a popular destination for Ayurveda cures and yoga retreats.

Tour of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a very diverse and safe country. The friendliness of the local population makes this a wonderful country to tour through. There is lots to see on the island, and everything is easily accessible. Sri Lanka is effectively one big nature park with truly diverse nature. From open plains and jungle to cloud forests and wetlands. For the more adventurous, there is even the option to hire a tuk-tuk to tour the island on! There are a number of different means of travel to choose from for touring Sri Lanka. Perhaps the best-known is train. If this is your transport of choice, we recommend researching in advance where on the train is best to sit, and where is best to buy tickets from.

Around forty kilometres from the capital, Colombo, is Negombo. Negombo is a small town and a good first stop to make from Colombo. Around 150 years ago, this town was in the hands of the Dutch. Testament to this period is the Dutch Canal, built by the Dutch and used by the Dutch East India Company. There are boat trips that run on a section of the canal, as well as visits to a Dutch Fort.

Surrounded by greenery, Kandy is one of the largest cities in the country. The climate here is somewhat more pleasant due to its higher altitude. In Kandy, visitors can uncover true Sri Lankan culture. As well as being home to multiple sights, Kandy also represents a good base from which to explore the rest of the country; from it, you can head in any direction. Southern Sri Lanka boasts numerous National Parks. Due to its geographical location close to the equator, Sri Lanka is home to lots of unique flora and fauna. So a visit to a nature park is an absolute must!
